Week 28 Update

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is getting a chance to get a little R&R in! We had a wonderful weekend. The Hilton's came down from Atlanta and we headed over to the Reilly's for some fun with all the kids. We got to get out to the beach yesterday for some fun in the sun! Thanks Reillys for letting me float in the pool! I think Aubrey enjoyed it just as much as I did!

Jamie and I are working on the room today....we now have a completely cleaned out room. The bed should be here in 2 weeks and the chair should be done this week. I hope to start painting all the other stuff this week.

I have been feeling pretty good. I have had some Braxton Hicks contractions, nothing to worry about. They go away with hydration and relaxation. We head back to the doctor next week for a check up. Jamie and I start our birthing class this Wednesday.....will keep you posted.

Here's what is going on this week:

By this week, she weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Week 27 Update

I had a doctor's appt. this morning and everything checked out just fine. I passed my glucose tolerance test, so no gestational diabetes! yeah! My weight is right on track and she is growing just fine. Her heart rate today was 135. The doctor mentioned induction of labor around 37-39 weeks if things are favorable....we'll see, I don't want to rush anything! I can't believe we are almost through the second trimester! I start seeing the doctor now every 2 weeks for check ups and will have another ultrasound at 36 weeks.
I went by and ordered her crib today and it should be here in about 3-4 weeks....I am hoping to start painting the furniture we are "repurposing" in the next couple of weeks, just waiting for the sample from the furniture store..it's all starting to come together!
Here's what's going on this week:This week she weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14.4 inches long with her legs extended. She can now open and close her eyes, and she sleeps and wakes at regular intervals. She may suck her fingers, and although her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with assistance — if she were to be born prematurely. But we don't want any of that!
Chalk up any rhythmic movement you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. She has definitely had hiccups! Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and isn't bothersome to her, so enjoy the tickle. With more brain tissue developing, her brain is very active now. Wonder what she's thinking?

Week 26 Update

May 13, 2008

First of all, a belated Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms out there! Whether it be a Mom to a child or a four legged friend, Happy Mother's Day! We have had a busy week....my bedding came in and it's just perfect! My mom came over for a visit for Mother's Day and we took several things to have monogrammed. We also found some fabric to have slip covers made for the rocker/loveseat that will be in Aubrey's room (Thanks Aunt Di)! We got the furniture moved out of the room we are going to use and now we have a clean palate. Jamie and I went out on Sunday and got registed at Babys R Us and I went yesterday to register at Target.....can I just say that it is a little overwhelming! I work with babies and I had no idea all the decisions....what kind of carseat/ stoller/ swing/wipes for her bottom .....and the list is soooo long! So things are moving right along.
She is quite the wiggle worm lately. It's kinda neat how she is really active around the same times everyday, already in a routine! Jamie can feel her moving all the time now. And I think Abbey and Molly know that something is up....they have been really sweet and more protective of me. Let's hope they take to Aubrey well!
Here's what' happening this week:
She now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber), from head to heel. Her weight will more than triple between now and birth as she rapidly puts on baby fat. She'll need that fat to help adjust to colder temperatures outside the womb and as a source of energy and calories in the first days of life. It's not uncommon for newborns, especially those who are breastfed , to lose weight (sometimes as much as 10 percent of their birth weight) in the first week after birth. Look who's looking. Her eyes — which have been closed for the past few months (so that the retina, the part of the eye that allows images to come into focus, could develop) — are now beginning to open. What this means is that she is able to see what's going on now (unfortunately the view in your uterus isn't all that exciting). But do try this at home for kicks (baby's that is): Shine a flashlight at your stomach. She might kick in response (as in: "Get that light out of my eyes!").
The iris, the colored part of the eye, still doesn't have much pigmentation (that'll fill in over the next month or two), so it's too early to start guessing her eye color. Even the color she will be born with might not be the permanent shade; so you may be kept guessing until she is close to six months old.
Look what else is going on this week: Her brain-wave activity is kicking in, which means your little one can not only hear noises but can now also respond to them. Not in so many words, of course, but with an increase in pulse rate or activity.
And talking about activity, at her current height and weight and at the rate she is growing, she will soon be feeling a little cramped in your uterus. Not to worry, there's still plenty of room for her to grow. It just means your gymnast will have less room for those somersaults, cartwheels, and other Olympic feats.

There she is!

Week 25 Update

May 4, 2008
Having a great week! We decided on a crib and will probably order it this week. We are hoping to really put a dent in the room in the next few weeks. I can't wait for the bedding to come in.

Now that we have chosen a name it's off to the seamstress to have some monogramming done! It's been so fun picking out girly things! I am hoping to go and register for some things very soon, too. I just can't believe how fast things are going! She'll be here before we know it!
Here's what's going on this week:
Head to heels, she now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for a more rounded one. As she gains weight, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more like a mini newborn. Her hair is probably recognizable now in color and texture, although both may change after she's born. Wonder if it will be red????

Here's little Aubrey's bed....sweet enough for a princess!
