Week 15 Update

February 25, 2008
Things are going well and I am starting to feel better. I am not quite as tired and drained as I was a few weeks ago. I am thinking I may have felt the baby move for the first time on early Sunday morning at work! I was hunched over at a desk working on a chart when I felt this little thump as if to say "Hey! Sit up straight I don't have enough room in here!" I felt it again last night just before we went to bed. It feels sort of like a piece of popcorn popping! We head back to the doctor in about 1 1/2 weeks.
Here is the latest in what is going on in there: The baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

Week 14 Update

February 18, 2008
We have officially made it through our first trimester! What a relief! Here is the latest on what is going on:
This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Week 13 Check-up

February 11, 2008

We went for our check-up today....everything was great! The baby was all curled up in the corner sleeping and it looked as if it was trying to suck it's thumb! When the ultrasound tech jiggled my belly to wake it up it stretched out as if to say "Good Morning!" The heart beat was 155. The baby now measures about 3 inches in length, about the size of a jumbo shrimp! We go back for another check up in 3 weeks, will keep you posted

All curled up asleep!

Ahhhh.....what a good stretch!

Here we go......

Jamie and I are excited to share with and tell you all that we are expecting! Since many of our friends and all of our family live out of town, I decided to put this web page/ blog together so we could share our journey with you! This has been a long time coming and we really could not be happier!

We hope that you will participate and comment on the blog, as well!

I wasn't feeling too hot that day and decided maybe I should take a home test.....and what do you know! We were excited and really couldn't believe it! So a couple more tests later we were finally convinced! I went to see the doctor the next morning and the blood tests confirmed it.....There is a "Bunner in the Oven!"

Merry Christmas!

This is our very first ultrasound done on Christmas Eve morning! What a present, huh? We were about 6 weeks along at this point. We were so excited, you could see and hear the baby's heart beating! The heart rate was 115 beats per minute! It looked like a butterfly fluttering in the middle of a little white dot. It is absolutely amazing to hear it and know there is a little person inside you! And don't let Jamie tell you any different....he cried, too! heehee!

In the above: You are looking at the baby (the little white dot on the left) and it's attached to the yolk sac (bubble to the right). The baby was 4.4 millimeters long. Soooo tiny! You can click on the picture to get a better look.....

We also took a quick video clip....If you listen carefully you can hear the heart beat!

Happy New Year!

The doctor had me come in one week later to make sure everything was going okay. The heart rate was now 146, perfect! The baby had more than doubled in size in just one week! It now measured 9.7 mm!

In the Above: The baby is about 7 weeks along here. You can see the baby on the left (looks like a bean) and the yolk sac on the right (little bubble).

Another check up two weeks later....everything was right on schedule! The heart beat was 176 beats per minute! The norm is 120-180. This time we could actually see our little "lima bean" moving!

Above: We are about 9 weeks along. You can make out the head to the left. It looks like a shrimp or a lima bean! The baby now measures 2.09 centimeters!

We let the cat out of the bag today! We weren't able to tell our parents in person, so we put a care package together with an envelope to each parent. Inside was a onesie that said "I Love my Grandpa" and one that said "I Love my Grandma". We had them call us when their packages arrived and had them open it up while we were on the phone with them. They were all very excited! Jamie's Mom had had a sneaking suspension that was what it was about! We also sent them a small photo album with an ultra sound picture of the baby at 9 weeks.

Here we are just 2 weeks later....it actually looks like a real baby now! Here we are about 11 weeks along. The heart beat was 172! Although I can't feel the little thing moving yet, it was squirming all over the place! It actually flipped from one side to the other while we were watching! If you look closely you can see the feet on the picture to the top far left and the baby has it's hand resting on it's forehead.....so dramatic! You can make out it's little face and an outline of it's ear, too! I think it looks just like Jamie! Hahahaha! Just kidding!

I am not really showing yet, my pants are getting tighter and none of my shirts fit, but really I just look pudgy around the middle right now.....as I get a little further along and my little pooch starts to show I will post some pics!
We are headed back to the doctor on Monday February 13th for another check up...We will be about 13 weeks along then....will let you know!
